Family Engagement Toolkits

Many organizations have documented their family engagement programs through toolkits, designed to help others create high-impact family engagement initiatives.
These toolkits can help you:

  • Identify program goals and establish strategies to achieve them
  • Create a common vocabulary to allow for smoother communication among program participants
  • Draft an effective Family Partnership Agreement
  • Download printable resources, and much more.

Two example toolkits are provided below.

BOSTNet Engaging Families in Out-of-School Time Programs Toolkit

Through the 4-year Engaging Families Initiative, BOSTnet worked with after school
programs to develop tools and strategies to help you improve how families are involved in programs and in the success of their children. These strategies were evaluated by the Intercultural Center for Research in Education (INCRE) at UMASS as powerful tools for promoting self-assessment of program practices, and as feasible and practical strategies for enhancing parent involvement in after school. This Toolkit summarizes best practice tools and strategies from the Engaging Families Initiative.

The Early Childhood Family Engagement Framework Toolkit: Maryland’s Vision for Engaging Families with Young Children

This toolkit was developed by the Maryland Family Engagement Coalition and the Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Early Childhood Development, as part of the Family Engagement Initiative, funded through a grant opportunity with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. It was designed to support Maryland’s early childhood community as they implement strategies of the Framework to promote family engagement in early care and education settings and to improve families and children’s outcomes by promoting a two-generational approach.
